Students can enter the Solo Competition with a solo piece composed for their instrument with or without accompaniment between 4 and 8 minutes. The competition will be held during the first 2-3 days of the Festival. Memorization is strongly recommended. Instrumentalists and vocalists may apply.
If you would like to enter the solo competition, please be prepared to provide the title and movement of your piece, the complete spelling of the composer's name, the duration of the movement, and a scanned PDF score of any accompaniment on the registration form upon acceptance to the Festival.
Performing winners of the Solo Competition will get a professional video recording of their performance, a winner’s certificate, and music scholarships to attend MPF the following year.
In addition to the numbered prizes, special “American Youth Orchestra Prize” will be awarded to selected players who are current members of youth orchestras. Winners will be professionally contracted to perform in a special concert “American Youth Orchestra Star Showcase”, presented by the Master Players Concert Series in 2020.
